How to deck up for a Christmas party in 5 steps

Christmas is one of the merriest festivals in India, close on the heels of the New Year. It is a time for much merrymaking and partying, both with office colleagues and friends. You like to dress up in your best clothes and show up at parties and soirees looking gorgeous to the hilt. Besides, you look forward to gorging on sweets, sipping on wine and going out for dinner with your significant other during this time.

You’ve just been invited to the annual office Christmas party, and now you must start planning your look for the event. It seems daunting at first, but it’s easier if you break it down in steps. We’ve got some help to get you started:

#1 Take stock of your clothing choices.

You want to look your best, and this means pulling all the stops in terms of clothes, underclothing, shoes, makeup, perfume and jewellery. Take stock of what you already have in your closet and shortlist two of the most stunning dresses. If you don’t like what you see, you might need to order new clothes and accessories. Do this right away and order clothes and whatever else you need – look for e-commerce online shopping apps that allow a free trial before you make your choice. This way, you will be sure of the sizing and not have to worry about exchanging and returning purchases closer to the party date.

#2 Match accessories and footwear with your clothes.

Once you have your clothes and underclothing in place, you should organise the accessories and footwear to go with it. Take care to match your shoes, clutch/purse and belt. Next, organise accessories like earrings, finger ring(s), necklace, bangles/bracelet, etc. These must match each other perfectly in colour and material. If you are not happy with your choice of accessories, simply log on to the best shopping apps and buy what you need.

#3 Get your makeup and perfume organised.

Next, decide on a makeup palette for the event. Since it is most likely an evening or night event, a dark look will work wonders. Or you could go the other way with a minimal makeup look (think nude lips and a hint of eye shadow) and more accents on your hairstyle. Take a look at all your makeup essentials, from primer to lipstick, and throw away expired items at once. Place an order for new makeup and perfumes if you are not happy with what you already own. Like we mentioned earlier, there are shopping apps that offer free trials of most products, including makeup and skin care items, so order these before buying the products.

#4 Try your entire outfit(s) once before the party.

Though you have got everything you need to wear to the party ready, have you tried it all on? Give yourself enough time for a final trial, right from clothes to makeup, to see if the look goes well with what you had in mind. Try on your ensemble in the evening or night hours to check how the colours and overall look fits; makeup certainly looks different at different points of the day, so having a few options on standby might help. If some part of your look doesn’t work, you must leave enough time to rectify it with replacement items. You also get time to alter your clothing if you are not happy with the fit.

#5 Eat a light meal before you leave.

You might want to arrive fashionably late to the party, but it doesn’t do to arrive on an empty stomach. We suggest eating a light meal, such as a salad or soup, to cut your appetite and keep you in fine fettle for the party. Or just have a vegetable or fruit smoothie to feel full before you start snacking at the party. Having a meal also reduces the urge to binge on salty, sugary junk food and alcohol, so your head remains clear the next day.

Now all that remains is to step out the door looking and feeling your absolute best – go out there and stun the world!
